Let there be LITE - the design and evaluation of a GDPR-based Label for IoT Transparency Enhancement
Abstract: "LITE" is a label and an online interface that helps protect the
privacy of people who use IoT devices. It does so by bringing important
privacy facts to their attention, enabling them to sift through large
volumes of information about devices and compare multiple IoT devices
side by side. The design combines feedback from usability, security,
privacy and legal professionals, and it is structured around the
transparency requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation
(GDPR), ensuring that even a non-expert can quickly find answers to
questions such as "what information is collected?" or "for what purpose
it is used?", among others. This talk will walk you through the design
and the findings of the usability tests we conducted.
